Where other labels started with the intention of being a streetwear brand, Carhartt WIP never aimed to be the pioneer of the early streetwear movement that it became. In 1989 Edwin Faeh began importing Carhartt goods to Europe, and by 1994 had set up a Carhartt European distribution network. As the internet, hip hop, skate, and electronic subcultures blossomed so did the popularity of Carhartt WIP's rugged and effortlessly casual clothes. Today Carhartt WIP retains its rugged aesthetic and continues to remain true to the roots that made it one of the progenitors of street fashion.
