Often referred to as the golden age of basketball shoes, the '90s were led by Nike and its insane line up of hoops classics. The Uptempo line debuted in 1995 and was created to fit the games of athletic wing players whose sudden influx took the NBA by storm and set the precursor for the modern day "3&D wing" and positionless basketball. At the time Nike had the Flight line for quick guards, and the Force line for powerful big men, but it needed a shoe that could match the fast explosive games of players like Scottie Pippen. During the '95-'96 season Nike debuted the Air Max Uptempo, the first basketball shoe to ever feature full-length visible Nike Air cushioning. Upon its release, Nike dubbed it "the most Nike-Air cushioning ever put into a sole."
